MetaMask is adding tokenized traditional assets to its wallet experience. Starting Tuesday, eligible users outside the United States can access about 200 tokenized assets through Ondo Global Markets, including US stocks, ETFs, gold and silver.
Mobile rollout starts first through MetaMask Swaps
According to the announcement, the assets are available on the Ethereum network and can be reached through MetaMask Swaps. Users are able to convert Circle’s USDC stablecoin into Ondo Global Markets tokens, which are structured to track the value of their underlying assets on a 1:1 basis.
The initial release is limited to the MetaMask mobile app. A Consensys spokesperson said desktop support is expected later this month through the browser extension, leaving the first phase centered on mobile access.
Self-custodial wallets are taking on distribution duties
For wallet users, tokenized stocks and ETFs offer a way to gain price exposure to traditional markets without moving funds across exchanges, brokerage accounts and wallets. In that setup, the self-custodial wallet becomes more than a storage tool. It starts acting as a distribution layer for tokenized securities.
Joe Lubin, Ethereum co-founder and chief executive of Consensys, described the move as a response to friction in legacy market structure. He said access to US markets still runs through older rails, with fragmented platforms and limited trading windows. Lubin added that bringing Ondo’s tokenized US stocks and ETFs directly into MetaMask points to a different model: one self-custodial wallet where users can move between crypto assets and traditional assets without intermediaries and without giving up control.
The assets are issued by Ondo Global Markets, a unit of Ondo Finance focused on non-US investors. Ondo has drawn attention for its work in tokenized real-world assets, as well as its links to World Liberty Financial, a crypto project backed by US President Donald Trump.
United States and 30 other markets are excluded
The feature is not available everywhere. MetaMask said the tokenized asset offering will be unavailable in the United States and 30 other countries and regions. Excluded markets include Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, matching Ondo’s approach of offering tokenized securities mainly to investors outside US regulatory reach.
A Consensys spokesperson said MetaMask uses multiple methods to enforce geographic restrictions, including checks based on a user’s IP address. If someone tries to access the feature from a restricted region, the interface will show an error saying the trading route is unavailable. The spokesperson also said MetaMask is continuing to explore compliant ways to widen access to tokenized real-world assets as regulatory frameworks change.
Wallets and exchanges are building multi-asset interfaces
The launch fits a wider push across the industry. Wallets and exchanges are trying to place crypto assets, tokenized assets and prediction markets inside the same interface, reducing the need for users to switch across separate platforms for each asset class. Coinbase said last year it was building its own tokenization platform, while Trust Wallet integrated Ondo-issued tokenized assets in September 2025.
Both companies have also entered prediction markets, with Coinbase integrating Kalshi and Trust Wallet launching with Myriad. MetaMask itself partnered with Polymarket in October 2025, adding prediction market access to its mobile app. With tokenized US stocks and ETFs now added, the wallet moves closer to a multi-asset model, though the rollout is still constrained by jurisdiction and platform support.
