Metaplanet has unveiled a Bitcoin rewards card reserved for its shareholders, with eligible purchases earning 1.6% cashback paid entirely in BTC. The MetaPlanet Card will only be available to shareholders who complete identity verification, making it a targeted investor benefit rather than a broad consumer offering.
All spending rewards will be paid in Bitcoin
According to the announcement, cardholders will receive Bitcoin equal to 1.6% of each eligible purchase. The reward structure is narrow by design: no loyalty points, no fiat cashback, and no parallel perk system were mentioned. Every payout tied to spending activity will be distributed in BTC.
Metaplanet has not disclosed whether the program will include spending caps or reward limits. Those details are expected closer to launch. For now, the company is presenting the card as a way to connect ordinary spending with routine Bitcoin accumulation, and it summed up the pitch in a short statement: the MetaPlanet Card will allow shareholders to turn everyday spending into Bitcoin.
Summer rollout planned, with shareholder verification required
The company said the card is scheduled for rollout in the summer, though no exact launch date has been given. Issuance will be limited to shareholders who pass onboarding and identity checks. That framing puts the initiative firmly in the category of shareholder benefits, not a mass-market payments product.
Metaplanet has also held back key operational details. Supported regions, payment networks, and partner information have not yet been announced, and the company said infrastructure and partnership updates will come later. The release is expected to happen in phases, with the initial focus on engagement within its investor base.
Consumer product tied to a Bitcoin treasury identity
Based in Tokyo, Metaplanet has drawn attention in recent quarters for steadily increasing its Bitcoin holdings and weaving BTC into its broader corporate activity. Among listed Japanese firms, it has become closely associated with a Bitcoin treasury strategy.
The new card extends that identity into consumer payments. By restricting access to verified shareholders and making Bitcoin the only reward currency, Metaplanet is linking ownership in the company with direct BTC incentives. The firm said the launch fits its push to expand real-world Bitcoin use cases and forms part of its wider effort to build consumer-facing Bitcoin services.
