MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor has added to the company’s Bitcoin position once again. According to his disclosure, the firm purchased 295 BTC for $10 million in cash, at an average price of about $33,808 per coin. After the latest acquisition, MicroStrategy’s total Bitcoin holdings reached 71,079 BTC, acquired for roughly $1.145 billion at an average cost of about $16,109 per Bitcoin.

MicroStrategy keeps buying

In an interview, Saylor said his aggressive accumulation strategy is based on his view of Bitcoin as a long-duration, safe-haven asset. He argued that Bitcoin cannot be debased and described it as a way to preserve monetary energy over long periods of time, whether over 10, 20, or 30 years.

MicroStrategy had already drawn major attention in 2020 for its repeated Bitcoin purchases, including 29,646 BTC bought in December alone. The latest purchase shows that the company’s Bitcoin-focused treasury strategy continued into 2021, with Saylor maintaining a consistently bullish stance on the asset.

Saylor renews criticism of gold

Alongside his support for Bitcoin, Saylor also delivered another sharp critique of gold. He described gold as “dead money” and a “dying asset,” arguing that the investment landscape is shifting from gold toward Bitcoin. In his view, investors who remain in gold risk being left behind if larger funds rotate capital out of the metal.

Saylor also broadened his comparison beyond gold, saying that over the previous six months, asset classes such as gold, the NASDAQ, the S&P 500, and bonds had largely moved sideways, while Bitcoin had delivered the strongest performance. He said Bitcoin had at least tripled over that period, setting it apart from traditional markets.

Bitcoin remains the center of his thesis

From public statements to corporate balance-sheet decisions, Saylor has remained one of Bitcoin’s most outspoken advocates. While the latest purchase was smaller than some of MicroStrategy’s previous buys, it still reinforced the same message: the company continues to treat Bitcoin as a core reserve asset, and Saylor remains committed to the argument that Bitcoin is superior to gold and many other traditional investments.
