In a revealing post on social media platform X on December 27, 2024, MicroStrategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor shared a comprehensive list compiled by Hodl15capital detailing the top 60 publicly traded companies by Bitcoin holdings. The data shows these firms collectively own 591,368 BTC, valued at over $50 billion at current prices.
MicroStrategy Leads by a Wide Margin, Joining Nasdaq 100
Unsurprisingly, MicroStrategy holds the top spot with an overwhelming 444,262 bitcoins, nearly ten times the holdings of the second-largest corporate holder, Marathon Digital, which owns 44,394 BTC. Other major players include Riot Platforms (17,429 BTC), Hut 8 (10,096 BTC), and Tesla (9,720 BTC). U.S.-based companies dominate the top positions.
The aggressive Bitcoin acquisition strategy has propelled MicroStrategy's stock price by over 400% in 2024, leading to its inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 Index. To further expand its Bitcoin treasury, the company plans to raise $42 billion over the next three years through debt and equity offerings. Saylor remains bullish, predicting Bitcoin could reach $13 million per coin by 2045.
Tech and Financial Giants Join the List: Coinbase, Block, Galaxy Digital
Beyond pure-play Bitcoin holders, several well-known technology and financial firms made the list. Coinbase holds 9,480 BTC, Block (formerly Square) holds 8,363 BTC, and Galaxy Digital owns 5,400 BTC. In Europe, Germany's Bitcoin Group SE holds 3,114 BTC.
Asian companies are also actively accumulating: Hong Kong-listed Boyaa Interactive owns 3,183 BTC, Japan's Metaplanet holds 1,761 BTC, China's Cango has 364 BTC, and Singapore's Bitdeer holds 508 BTC. Firms from Australia, Thailand, and Malta are also present, demonstrating the global reach of corporate Bitcoin adoption.
Governments and Sovereign Funds Accumulate Bitcoin
The trend extends beyond corporations. El Salvador, the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, has amassed approximately $600 million in BTC reserves. The United States is considering the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve to strengthen economic resilience. According to Arkham Intelligence, the government of Bhutan currently holds nearly $1.13 billion in Bitcoin. These moves highlight a shift toward diversifying sovereign reserves amid economic uncertainty and inflation concerns.
