Michael Saylor, executive chairman of MicroStrategy, shared a detailed list on X on December 27, revealing the top 60 publicly traded companies with the largest bitcoin holdings. Compiled by Hodl15capital, the list underscores the accelerating corporate accumulation of Bitcoin, with MicroStrategy holding a commanding 444,262 BTC—nearly 75% of the total 591,368 BTC held by all 60 firms combined.
Top 10 Companies: U.S. Dominance
Following MicroStrategy, the second-largest holder is Bitcoin miner Marathon Digital with 44,394 BTC. Riot Platforms holds 17,429 BTC, Hut 8 holds 10,096 BTC, and Tesla holds 9,720 BTC. Other notable U.S. firms include Coinbase with 9,480 BTC, Block (formerly Square) with 8,363 BTC, and Galaxy Digital with 5,400 BTC. This concentration illustrates the heavy involvement of American corporations in Bitcoin treasury strategies.
MicroStrategy’s Aggressive Play
MicroStrategy’s relentless Bitcoin purchases have driven its stock up over 400% in 2024 and earned it a spot in the Nasdaq 100 index. To further its Bitcoin treasury, the company plans to raise $42 billion over three years through debt and equity offerings. Saylor remains extremely bullish, predicting Bitcoin could reach $13 million per coin by 2045.
Asian and Global Participants
The list also includes Asian companies: Hong Kong’s Boyaa Interactive holds 3,183 BTC, Japan’s Metaplanet holds 1,761 BTC, Singapore’s Bitdeer holds 508 BTC, and China’s Cango holds 364 BTC. Germany’s Bitcoin Group SE holds 3,114 BTC. Firms from Australia, Thailand, and Malta further demonstrate the global nature of corporate Bitcoin adoption.
Government Accumulation
Beyond corporations, sovereign entities are also building Bitcoin reserves. El Salvador, which adopted Bitcoin as legal tender, has amassed roughly $600 million in BTC. The U.S. is reportedly considering a strategic Bitcoin reserve. According to Arkham Intelligence, Bhutan holds nearly $1.13 billion in Bitcoin. These trends highlight a broader shift toward diversifying reserves with digital assets amid economic uncertainty and inflation.
