Micro1 has recruited approximately 4,000 workers worldwide, who collectively submit over 160,000 hours of footage each month. Workers use the iPhone's rear LiDAR camera to precisely capture hand trajectories while performing tasks such as washing dishes, folding clothes, and handling tools. All videos undergo rigorous quality review by the platform to ensure data usability.
Although $15/hour is well above local wages in regions like Nairobi and Manila, reports indicate that many workers face video rejections due to technical issues and remain unaware of how their data will be used or resold.
Data Use and Privacy Concerns
The hand motion data is used to train humanoid robots' perception and manipulation skills, allowing them to mimic fine human actions. Micro1 emphasizes that LiDAR sensors capture depth information, providing more accurate 3D motion than standard RGB cameras.
