Michael Saylor Announces Shareholder Gains and New Milestones
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Microstrategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR), revealed in a Feb. 11 post on social media platform X that the company's treasury operations have resulted in a BTC gain of 18,527 BTC, equivalent to approximately $1.8 billion for MSTR shareholders so far in 2025. This achievement comes as the firm's total bitcoin holdings reached 478,740 BTC, with a net asset value (NAV) of $46.7 billion. For the full year 2024, the company reported a 74.3% BTC Yield, while the year-to-date 2025 BTC Yield stands at 4.1%.
Latest Purchase Details and Funding Strategy
In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Feb. 10, Microstrategy disclosed the acquisition of 7,633 BTC for approximately $742.4 million, at an average price of about $97,255 per bitcoin. The purchase was funded through a combination of an at-the-market equity offering and a preferred stock offering, continuing the company's strategy of leveraging capital markets to expand its digital asset treasury. CFO Andrew Kang highlighted during the Q4 2024 earnings call: "The fourth quarter of 2024 marked our largest ever increase in quarterly bitcoin holdings, culminating in the acquisition of 218,887 bitcoins acquired for $20.5 billion since the end of Q3." The earnings release confirmed that the company raised capital via convertible note issuances and equity sales to maintain its aggressive bitcoin accumulation pace.
Saylor's Long-Term Bitcoin Price Forecast
Michael Saylor also shared his long-term outlook for bitcoin. In his base-case scenario, he projects bitcoin could reach $13 million per coin by 2045. His bear-case scenario estimates $3 million, while his bull-case scenario forecasts $49 million. These projections are based on varying annual growth rates and potential market adoption levels. Saylor reiterated the company's conviction in bitcoin as a primary treasury asset and confirmed plans to continue executing its "triple leverage" strategy—using equity and debt to fund further bitcoin purchases.
Market Impact and Industry Position
As the largest publicly traded corporate holder of bitcoin, Microstrategy's holdings have become a bellwether for institutional involvement in the cryptocurrency market. The firm's stock (MSTR) trades with a high correlation to bitcoin's price, acting as a proxy for investors seeking exposure without directly holding crypto. After rebranding to Strategy, the company's single-minded focus on bitcoin has drawn both praise and criticism. Analysts note that while the strategy maximizes upside in bull markets, the use of leveraged financing introduces significant downside risk if bitcoin prices decline sharply. Nevertheless, the company's latest results underscore the substantial gains achieved over the past year and the growing integration of bitcoin into corporate treasury management.
