MiniMax has publicly linked its upcoming MiniMax-M3.1-Flash model to the previously anonymous Space Bunny for the first time. In a teaser posted on X, the company wrote, 「Welcome back, Space Bunny」 and said M3.1 Flash is coming soon. The post marks the first direct confirmation from MiniMax after weeks of speculation around the identity of Space Bunny Alpha. Space Bunny Alpha appeared anonymously on OpenRouter and OpenCode on Sept. 23 as a limited-time free model. It offered a 1 million-token context window, accepted image and video inputs, and allowed users to adjust reasoning intensity. The model later climbed to the top of the daily usage rankings on both platforms. Developers had previously compared tokenizer fingerprints and token counting behavior and found a close match with MiniMax’s M-series models, though the company had not confirmed the connection at the time. MiniMax had already opened public testing for M3.1-Flash-Preview on Sept. 27, positioning it for high-speed reasoning and coding tasks. Its API documentation now shows MiniMax-M3.1-Flash without the Preview suffix, with support for five reasoning levels and tool calling.

MiniMax has publicly connected the previously anonymous Space Bunny model to its upcoming MiniMax-M3.1-Flash release for the first time.

In a teaser posted on X, the company wrote 「Welcome back, Space Bunny」 and said MiniMax-M3.1-Flash is coming soon. That is the first time MiniMax itself has directly tied the viral anonymous model Space Bunny to M3.1 Flash.

Space Bunny first appeared anonymously in September

On Sept. 23, Space Bunny Alpha launched anonymously on OpenRouter and OpenCode with limited-time free access. The model supported a 1 million-token context window, image and video inputs, and adjustable reasoning intensity. It later reached the top of the daily usage rankings on both platforms.

Developers then used tokenizer fingerprinting and token counting tests and found that the model closely matched MiniMax’s M series. At the time, however, MiniMax did not confirm the identity behind the model.

M3.1 Flash has moved beyond the preview stage

MiniMax had already opened public testing for M3.1-Flash-Preview on Sept. 27, with a focus on high-speed reasoning and coding tasks. Its official API documentation now shows MiniMax-M3.1-Flash without the Preview suffix, and the model supports five levels of reasoning intensity as well as tool calling.
