MoonPay said it has acquired Dawn Labs and introduced Dawn CLI, a new AI-native trading product designed to turn plain-English strategy descriptions into autonomous trade execution on supported venues. The move marks another step in MoonPay’s expansion beyond payments and on-ramp services into a broader stack of programmable financial infrastructure aimed at both users and AI agents.

The company announced that the acquisition was completed on May 11, 2026. As part of the deal, Dawn Labs founder Neeraj Prasad and the full Dawn team are joining MoonPay. Prasad will take on the role of Chief Engineer of MoonPay Labs, giving the company additional technical depth as it continues building AI-focused financial tools.

Targeting friction in active and prediction-market trading

MoonPay framed Dawn CLI as a response to a practical problem in modern crypto and prediction-market trading. Platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi have attracted a growing number of active traders, but the infrastructure required to compete effectively remains fragmented. Traders often rely on a mix of social signals, market data, custom scripts, and cross-platform position management, all of which demand technical skill and time.

Traditionally, building and deploying a trading strategy has required expertise across multiple disciplines at once, including market research, software development, and portfolio management. Dawn CLI is designed to reduce that complexity. Instead of manually building each component of a strategy stack, users can describe their trading idea in natural language, and the system converts that description into executable logic.

According to MoonPay, Dawn CLI does more than just generate code. It is intended to cover the full trading lifecycle. First, a user defines the strategy in plain English. The platform then surfaces relevant data and market signals for analysis. From there, it generates strategy code, runs automated simulation and stress testing, and finally executes trades continuously based on the user’s direction. In practice, MoonPay is positioning the product as an AI trading agent rather than a simple interface layer.

Dawn Labs founder brings ML and trading engineering experience

Dawn Labs was founded in 2025 by Neeraj Prasad, an MIT graduate in computer science and engineering who also conducted machine-learning research in the university’s neuroscience labs. Before starting the company, Prasad worked in engineering roles at Waymo, Microsoft, Citadel, and Reservoir Labs. His background spans perception systems, machine-learning infrastructure, quantitative trading, and deep-learning compilers.

That profile helps explain why MoonPay sees Dawn as strategically important. The company is not only acquiring a product, but also bringing in a team with experience across AI systems and market infrastructure. In comments included in the announcement, MoonPay CEO and founder Ivan Soto-Wright said the Dawn Labs team had made some of the most complex parts of active trading accessible to anyone with an idea. He added that traders can use Dawn to direct AI agents to develop and execute sophisticated strategies autonomously.

Prasad described the problem in similar terms. He said effective competition in modern trading has required expertise across several disciplines simultaneously, and that Dawn was built to combine those capabilities inside a single autonomous system. Joining MoonPay, he said, would allow that system to scale to a broader audience.

Part of a larger AI-financial infrastructure strategy

The launch of Dawn CLI fits into a broader strategic arc that MoonPay says it has been following over the past year. The company has gradually expanded from core fiat on-ramp APIs into products aimed at AI-native finance. That roadmap has included Moonpay CLI, followed by Moonpay Agents with Ledger-secured hardware signing, and later the Moon Agents Card, a virtual Mastercard debit card that allows users and AI agents to spend stablecoins directly from onchain balances anywhere Mastercard is accepted online.

MoonPay has also introduced the Open Wallet Standard, an effort intended to extend wallet and payment functionality across agents, frameworks, and chains. In that context, Dawn CLI appears to be the company’s next layer: moving from enabling access to funds and payment rails toward enabling autonomous strategy formation and market participation.

This broader framing matters because it shows MoonPay is not treating AI as a standalone feature. Instead, it is trying to assemble a financial operating environment in which AI agents can hold assets, sign transactions, move funds, and now potentially research and execute trading strategies. Dawn CLI therefore sits at the intersection of trading automation, agent infrastructure, and crypto-native financial tooling.

Scale, adoption, and open questions

MoonPay said it now serves 30 million customers across 180 countries, giving it a sizable distribution base as it pushes further into AI-native products. That reach could help the company expose Dawn CLI to a broad set of crypto users, especially those already familiar with MoonPay’s infrastructure.

Still, the product’s real significance will depend on whether it can deliver reliable performance in live market conditions. Turning natural-language prompts into executable strategies is a compelling proposition, but active trading environments are unforgiving. Traders care not only about automation, but also about latency, signal quality, execution consistency, and the ability to manage risk across changing market conditions.

That is especially true in prediction markets and event-driven trading, where sentiment can shift rapidly and where a strategy may require quick interpretation of fragmented data sources. MoonPay’s announcement emphasizes Dawn CLI’s ability to automate research, simulation, and execution, but broader adoption among serious traders will likely hinge on how well those components work together once deployed at scale.

Even so, the launch reflects a notable trend in crypto infrastructure: the migration from tools that simply facilitate transactions to systems that can interpret intent and carry out financial tasks autonomously. With the acquisition of Dawn Labs, MoonPay is signaling that it wants to play a role not just in payments and access, but in the emerging market for AI-directed financial activity.
