MoonPay has launched a Telegram integration for its AI assistant MoonAgents, adding a new access point for crypto trading and market analysis. Kevin Arifin, head of MoonPay Agents on the product team, said the rollout is meant to complement the existing desktop app, giving users a way to reach the assistant when they are away from their computers.

Why Telegram was chosen

Arifin said the desktop version requires a computer connection, but users may still want to review the market or set up transactions while on the move. In that setup, Telegram serves as a practical gateway. He also said the decision was not based only on Telegram’s popularity in crypto circles. The platform offers a stronger bot interface, while services such as WhatsApp or iMessage bring extra setup friction.

MoonAgents sits within the recent wave of AI agent products built on LLMs, or large language models. These systems can generate text, understand instructions, and carry out multi-step tasks. That capability has made them a core building block for assistants that can initiate actions on computers.

Local storage remains central to the design

MoonPay said Telegram functions only as the interface in this arrangement, while user data and private keys are stored locally on the user’s computer. The company said this structure is intended to reduce dependence on the messaging platform itself. Arifin added that all records stay on the computer, so if Telegram access is interrupted, users can continue the same conversations through the MoonAgents desktop app.

MoonPay is known as a global fintech company focused on crypto payments and digital asset infrastructure. Arifin also pointed to projects such as OpenClaw and Hermes Agent as influences on MoonAgents, saying they show how AI assistants can move beyond standard chat windows and operate across new platforms.

Crypto firms are building more agent-based tools

The launch comes as more crypto companies build infrastructure for AI agents to interact with digital assets and online services. In April, Gemini introduced its Agentic Trading system, allowing users to connect AI models including ChatGPT and Claude directly to exchange tools. In June, Coinbase announced “Coinbase for Agents,” a product that lets AI-driven agents buy, sell, make payments, and manage portfolios for users within predefined limits. In the same month, Nous Research released a desktop version of its open-source Hermes Agent, turning it into a standalone app instead of a command-line utility.

MoonPay’s Telegram rollout does not replace the desktop base of MoonAgents. It extends the product’s reach: the computer remains the center for storage and continuity, while Telegram adds a mobile-facing interface for access and execution.
