MoonPay has launched a dedicated app inside ChatGPT that generates crypto checkout links on demand, letting users buy tokens without leaving OpenAI's chatbot — becoming the first crypto onramp to run inside the platform.
The company announced the launch in an X post, calling itself the first and only crypto onramp integrated in ChatGPT. The three-step flow lets users search for the MoonPay app, connect it, and buy any token. MoonPay said it tested the integration with Apple Pay and Solana, moving the beginning of a crypto purchase into a chat session.
Checkout Links Generated Inside the Chat
When a user types a request like "Can we buy some Solana?", the app returns a checkout link. In MoonPay's demo, the reply reads "Here's your SOL checkout link via MoonPay" followed by a "Buy Solana (SOL) — $50 checkout" link. Users can change the amount and choose a wallet during checkout outside the conversation.
Connecting the app triggers a "Connect MoonPay" consent screen that explains ChatGPT shares basic data — such as IP address and approximate location — along with a summary of recent context and intent. A toggle lets the chatbot reference relevant memories and chats when sharing data with MoonPay.
MoonPay Leans Further Into AI-native Payments
The ChatGPT app extends MoonPay's broader push into AI-driven crypto tools. Earlier this month the company acquired Dawn Labs, an AI trading startup, and launched Dawn CLI, a trading copilot that turns plain-English prompts into automated prediction-market strategies. It also previously launched the MoonAgents Card, a virtual Mastercard that lets AI agents spend stablecoins from crypto wallets at online merchants.
FinanceFeeds reported that the Dawn Labs deal followed other AI-focused launches, including MoonPay Agents, a non-custodial infrastructure layer introduced in February that lets AI agents create wallets and transact autonomously.
MoonPay Blockchain Engineer and Product Lead Kevin Arifin framed the app as a consumer education tool: "It's like a broker that sits by you, not making financial recommendations, but educating you about the asset you're buying. It makes ChatGPT the perfect place for that."
