MoonPay has introduced the MoonAgents Card, a Mastercard-linked stablecoin debit card that lets users and AI agents pay directly from self-custodial onchain wallets, starting in the UK and Latin America.

MoonPay has launched the MoonAgents Card, a stablecoin debit card built for both human users and AI agents. Running on the Mastercard network, the card converts stablecoins into fiat at the point of sale, allowing payments to be made straight from an onchain wallet without moving funds to an offchain account first or preloading a balance.

Built to connect self-custodial wallets to card payments

The card is issued through Monavate, a global payments platform and principal member of the Mastercard network. MoonPay said the setup links a self-custodial wallet to a Mastercard virtual payment card using Monavate’s infrastructure. Real-time funding and authorization are handled on the back end, so transactions can be initiated directly from the wallet.

That structure sets it apart from many existing stablecoin cards. In those models, users often need to transfer assets into an offchain wallet before spending. With MoonAgents Card, custody remains with the user; if a payment is declined, the funds are returned instantly to the wallet and no transfer of custody takes place.

AI agents can now pay merchants directly

MoonPay is positioning the product around AI-agent commerce as much as retail crypto spending. The company said AI agents are already capable of managing wallets, executing trades, and moving value onchain, but they have not been able to complete purchases directly with merchants. The new card changes that by giving them a payment rail compatible with online merchants that accept Mastercard.

“Agents are already managing wallets, executing trades, and moving value onchain. The one thing they couldn’t do was spend at a merchant. Now they can,” said MoonPay founder and CEO Ivan Soto-Wright. Exodus Movement co-founder and CEO JP Richardson said AI agents are expected to transact constantly at machine speed, and described MoonAgents Card as an extension of that infrastructure into direct merchant spending.

UK and Latin America first, with US and EU planned

MoonAgents Card is currently available in the UK and Latin America through MoonPay’s CLI. The company said availability in the US and the EU is planned next. As with other crypto-linked financial products, users must complete identity verification before the card can be issued, a step tied to compliance and account security.

MoonPay framed the launch as part of a broader shift in digital commerce, where AI agents are expected to handle a growing share of financial activity. The article also cited comments from Binance’s Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, and Stripe co-founder John Collison on the expanding role of AI agents in payments. For MoonPay, the card is a way to connect stablecoins, onchain wallets, and traditional payment networks in a form that both people and software agents can use.
