Blockchain monitoring platform Arkham has reported that Morgan Stanley's spot Bitcoin ETF, trading under the ticker MSBT, transferred 71.664 BTC to the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase today. At the current market rate, the transaction is valued at approximately $5.09 million. Depositing funds to an exchange is typically viewed by market participants as a precursor to selling, and Arkham has accordingly tagged this move as a "suspected sale".
MSBT is a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund launched by Morgan Stanley, offering institutional and accredited investors direct exposure to the price of Bitcoin. The ETF's on-chain holdings are publicly traceable, making it a valuable window for tracking how a major traditional financial institution is positioning itself in the crypto space.
According to Arkham's data, prior to the transfer, MSBT held an estimated 3,543.664 BTC. After the deposit, the balance decreased to 3,472 BTC. The overall portfolio value consequently dropped from around $245 million to roughly $240 million. Although this reduction represents only about 2% of the fund's total holdings and is relatively modest, any portfolio adjustment by a large institutional ETF is often monitored by the market as a potential signal of shifting sentiment or near-term strategy.
