Morgan Stanley’s latest 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission shows the bank held about 16.5 million shares of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) as of June 30, up 23% from 13.4 million shares in the first quarter, according to Cointelegraph. Even with that increase, the value of the IBIT position fell from $667 million to $549 million during the quarter as Bitcoin’s price declined, a drop of about 18%. The filing also showed Morgan Stanley held 2.57 million shares of MSBT valued at about $43.3 million. It added to positions in Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust, Bitwise Bitcoin ETF and Fidelity’s FBTC, with the FBTC holding rising by nearly 38%. On the Ethereum side, the bank raised its ETHA stake by about 202% to 4.6 million shares and increased its holding in Grayscale’s Ethereum Staking Mini ETF by about 26% to 5.1 million shares. It also opened new positions in Grayscale’s Solana staking ETF and a Fidelity Solana fund, with market values of about $4.25 million and $2.26 million. In individual stocks, Morgan Stanley increased its Circle holding from about 1.46 million shares to 8.32 million shares, while trimming Coinbase and CleanSpark and fully exiting Bitfarms.

Morgan Stanley increased its exposure to several crypto-linked funds in the second quarter, according to its latest 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, as cited by Cointelegraph.

As of June 30, the bank held about 16.5 million shares of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), up 23% from 13.4 million shares in the first quarter.

That larger share count did not translate into a higher position value. With Bitcoin down during the quarter, the market value of the IBIT holding fell from $667 million to $549 million, a decline of about 18%.

Bitcoin fund positions expanded

The filing also showed Morgan Stanley held 2.57 million shares of MSBT worth about $43.3 million. It added to Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust, Bitwise Bitcoin ETF and Fidelity’s FBTC. Its FBTC position rose by nearly 38%.

Ethereum and Solana exposure increased

On Ethereum-related products, Morgan Stanley lifted its ETHA holding by about 202% to 4.6 million shares. Its position in Grayscale’s Ethereum Staking Mini ETF rose by about 26% to 5.1 million shares.

The bank also opened new positions in Grayscale’s Solana staking ETF and a Fidelity Solana fund, with those holdings valued at about $4.25 million and $2.26 million, respectively.

Changes in individual crypto-related stocks

In single-name holdings, Morgan Stanley increased its position in Circle (CRCL) from about 1.46 million shares to 8.32 million shares. It also added to mining and infrastructure names including Cipher Digital, Core Scientific, Hut 8 and Bitdeer.

At the same time, the bank reduced its Coinbase position by about 550,000 shares, cut more than 3.1 million shares of CleanSpark, and fully exited roughly 8 million shares of Bitfarms.
