According to CryptoComLearn, Multicoin Capital co-founder Tushar Jain announced that the venture firm has significantly increased its holdings in Zcash (ZEC) since February 2026. Jain highlighted the growing market demand for privacy-focused, censorship-resistant, and seizure-resistant assets amid ongoing discussions about wealth taxes and asset confiscation policies.
Multicoin Capital's Strategic Accumulation
Jain stated in a public announcement that the firm began accumulating ZEC in February 2026 and views it as a crucial tool against systemic financial surveillance. “With the rising threat of wealth taxes and asset confiscation, privacy assets are becoming the ‘digital fortress’ for investors,” he emphasized. This move aligns with Multicoin Capital’s long-term focus on the privacy sector, having previously invested in other privacy-focused protocols.
Following the news, ZEC price surged approximately 177% from its February lows, briefly exceeding $550. As of writing, ZEC is trading at $511.71, marking a 19.08% increase in the past 24 hours with notably high trading volume.
The Rise of Privacy Asset Sector
The broader cryptocurrency market has seen a surge in interest for privacy-focused assets recently. Grayscale’s Zcash Trust (Grayscale Zcash Trust) has emerged as the only publicly traded ZEC fund, offering institutional investors a compliant exposure. Additionally, cross-chain protocol NEAR Intents has announced support for Zcash, expanding its utility across multi-chain ecosystems.
Barry Silbert, founder of Digital Currency Group, recently stated that the crypto market is entering a “privacy phase,” specifically highlighting Zcash’s unique value in protecting user financial privacy. However, not all Zcash trades have been profitable: one trader reportedly suffered a loss of approximately $763,000 after shifting from Bitcoin to Zcash, illustrating the inherent risks of high-volatility assets.
Multicoin Capital’s accumulation, combined with positive developments such as the Grayscale trust and NEAR integration, is positioning Zcash as a focal point in the privacy asset sector. Analysts suggest that if demand for privacy assets continues to grow, ZEC could experience further value revaluation in the current cycle.
