MultiversX said on Sept. 20 that it had confirmed an attacker attempted to exploit a VM-level atomicity issue, resulting in invalid state changes on the network. To contain the incident, the network has been paused. The team said a fix is ready and will first be tested in a shadow fork environment before being coordinated for mainnet deployment with validators, exchanges, and infrastructure partners. The project is also assessing a targeted recovery plan aimed at preserving confirmed transaction history and normal user states while addressing only the invalid state changes tied to the incident. Until an official recovery notice is issued, users have been told not to submit or rebroadcast transactions and not to deposit or withdraw EGLD or ESDT assets through trading platforms or cross-chain bridges. MultiversX said it will publish a full technical report after the incident is resolved and the investigation findings are confirmed.

According to BlockBeats, MultiversX (EGLD) said on Sept. 20 that it had confirmed an attacker attempted to exploit a VM-level atomicity issue, and that the attempt caused invalid state changes on the network.

The network has been paused to stop the incident from spreading. The development team said a fix has already been prepared and will be verified in a shadow fork environment first. If testing succeeds, the team will coordinate with validators, exchanges, and infrastructure partners to deploy the fix to mainnet.

MultiversX also said it is evaluating a targeted recovery plan. The stated goal is to preserve confirmed transaction history and normal user states while handling only the invalid state changes related to this incident.

Users were told that no action is required for now. Until the project issues an official recovery notice, users should not submit or rebroadcast transactions, and should not deposit or withdraw EGLD and ESDT assets through trading platforms or cross-chain bridges.

The project said it will release a full technical report after the incident has been handled and the investigation results have been confirmed.
