On June 18, Elon Musk responded to a community question on X regarding when China would achieve Fable-level artificial intelligence. He replied, "Probably Q1," referring to the first quarter of next year.

Prior to Musk's comment, X user Teortaxes had published an analysis stating that the Chinese GLM 5.2 model currently lags behind frontier models by about seven months, placing it at an Opus 4.7-4.8 level. Additionally, the Mythos model reached Preview status in early February 2026, with the full PRC Mythos (known as "Fable") expected to launch between November and December 2026. Musk's brief remark adds his perspective to this timeline.
