Elon Musk has again taken aim at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, saying Grok Imagine will make a full-length version of the story before the end of this year.
According to ABMedia, Nolan’s fantasy action adaptation of Homer’s Greek epic has reached $263.7 million at the global box office. Musk recently posted on X that Grok Imagine will complete a full-length Odyssey film by year-end and said it would be “historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”
Musk reposted a 3-minute AI scene and made a bigger promise
A creator on X shared a three-minute dialogue scene generated with Grok Imagine. Musk then quoted the post and wrote: “Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”
ABMedia noted that a feature-length film is a very different task from a short internet clip. Pacing, editing and sound design all require another level of control, and Musk has not explained how those details would be handled.
Casting has become a central target in Musk’s criticism
Musk has posted several times against Nolan’s casting choices in the film, with particular focus on Kenyan actress Lupita Amondi Nyong'o playing Helen.
The report said Musk accused Nolan of bending for awards by moving away from the past convention of casting white actresses in the role. Musk also wrote that “Nolan desecrated Homer” and bowed to political correctness in pursuit of an Oscar.
Nolan’s response, as cited by ABMedia, was that the original Odyssey was written in ancient Greek, while the film uses modern English so Homer’s story remains readable to a contemporary audience. The report added that opinions differ on what “historically accurate” means, especially because The Odyssey is itself a work of mythic fiction.
A 90-minute AI action film still faces major production limits
ABMedia said the hardest part of generating a 90-minute feature with AI may not be compute alone.
The bigger challenge is consistency over long sequences: keeping faces and costumes stable, maintaining action continuity, and matching voices with lip movement. Those remain limits for current diffusion models in long-form generation. The industry’s common workaround, the report said, is still to generate scenes in segments and then stitch them together in post-production.
With five months left before the end of the year, attention is now on what kind of film Musk will actually deliver.
