Nansen, a leading blockchain analytics provider, has released a groundbreaking study profiling the most active NFT collectors on Ethereum. The report analyzed 90 million Ethereum wallets to identify wallets that buy and sell non-fungible tokens regularly, offering a window into the strategies of top market participants.
Leaderboard Criteria
To be included on the NFT leaderboard, Nansen required that an account “must have bought and sold at least 10 NFTs from over 3 collections.” The leaderboard features multiple sections: total profit, collection-specific leaders, and a “Hodlers” tab that reveals collectors who rarely sell. According to nonfungible.com, monthly NFT sales reached $380 million in the prior 30 days, underscoring the market’s scale.
Pranksy: The Profit Champion
The collector known as Pranksy tops the overall profit list. “Pranksy is prolific,” Nansen states. “With a total spend of 1860 ETH (currently 3.4 million USD), Pranksy has spent over 3x the amount of anyone else on the leaderboard.” He spans 86 collections, purchasing 9,390 NFTs, of which 2,350 have been sold. This high turnover and diversification make him a model of reinvestment strategies.
Atblank.eth: Best Percentage Returns
Atblank.eth achieved the highest percentage profit at over 5,000%. While absolute numbers are smaller, the ROI highlights an ability to identify undervalued projects and exit at peak multiples.
Danny: Biggest Spender, Stubborn Hodler
The collector Danny spent 2,570 ETH on 7,088 NFTs, making him the largest spender in the dataset. Yet Danny has sold only 149 of those NFTs — a sell rate of merely 2.1%. This extreme hodling behavior mirrors traditional art collecting, betting on long-term appreciation rather than short-term flips.
Snotrocket.eth: Most Ecclectic Portfolio
Snotrocket.eth has purchased NFTs from 118 different collections, the broadest diversification. Despite this breadth, he managed a total profit of 145 ETH and sold only 184 out of 613 NFTs. Nansen notes: “That degree of total profit is unusual for an NFT collection with such high diversification.”
Natealex.eth: Consistent Third Place
Natealex.eth holds third place for “most consistent returns,” demonstrating steady profitability across market fluctuations.
Implications for the NFT Market
Nansen concludes: “The NFT leaderboards and wallet profiler represent new ways of gaining insight into the fast-moving and newly emerging NFT ecosystem. Unlike traditional art-markets, blockchain is able to preserve individual privacy whilst acting as a public treasure-trove of data revealing market trends and buyer strategies. These feature updates enable new and seasoned collectors to curate their own list of notable wallets to develop unique and personal insights into the latest NFT activity.”
This analysis not only spotlights the whales but also provides retail investors with data-driven strategies. Whether one prefers a concentrated approach like Danny or a broad portfolio like Snotrocket.eth, understanding the underlying behaviors can inform smarter allocation in the volatile NFT space.
