Nasdaq has announced a strategic partnership with Boerse Stuttgart Group to connect its European trading venues to Seturion, a blockchain-based settlement platform for tokenized securities. Under this deal, tokenized securities executed on Nasdaq's European markets will be settled through Seturion's distributed ledger infrastructure, which is designed to streamline post-trade processing.

The integration will initially cover structured products, a segment where European exchanges handle significant trading volumes. Over time, the two firms plan to onboard additional issuers, brokers, custodians, and other financial institutions seeking access to tokenized asset settlement via the platform. Roland Chai, President of European Market Services and Head of Digital Assets at Nasdaq, said European capital markets face fragmentation and efficiency challenges that limit the region's competitive potential. Tokenization, he noted, offers a transformative opportunity to improve settlement and securities processing workflows while preserving trust, stability, and regulatory rigor.

Addressing Post-Trade Fragmentation in Europe

European capital markets operate across multiple national settlement infrastructures, each governed by different rules and processes. This fragmentation often raises settlement costs and extends post-trade cycles. Seturion, launched in September 2025, was built as a pan-European platform to settle tokenized assets across borders. It supports multiple asset classes, can run on both public and private ledgers, and allows settlement using central bank money or on-chain cash. Matthias Voelkel, CEO of Boerse Stuttgart Group, described Seturion as an open industry solution aimed at overcoming national settlement silos and supporting a more unified European capital market.

The entire settlement infrastructure will operate within existing European regulatory frameworks, including MiFID II and the EU DLT Pilot Regime, which permit financial institutions to experiment with distributed ledger technology in securities trading and settlement. Through this partnership, Seturion gains its first major external exchange partner. Both firms said the collaboration will expand the ecosystem for trading and settling tokenized securities across Europe while improving settlement speed and efficiency for market participants.
