The NFT market went quiet after the 2022 bubble burst, but OpenSea executives are now signaling a revival. In an interview at Consensus Miami, OpenSea CMO Adam Hollander stated that NFTs are far from dead—the market just needs to move past speculative excess toward real utility.

Market Reset: Tokenized Collectibles as the New Engine

Hollander described the earlier NFT frenzy as a 'digital casino' that distorted the industry. Now that the hype has cooled, the next wave of growth will center on practical applications—especially tokenized versions of high-value collectibles. He specifically highlighted Pokémon cards and Rolex watches as prime candidates for tokenization, arguing that these assets gain liquidity and verifiable ownership through NFTs.

Beyond collectibles, Hollander sees potential in digital tickets, in-game items, AI-generated assets, and online creation tools. As AI makes digital art and virtual assets more accessible, demand for NFTs could rise. OpenSea's focus has shifted from simple profile pictures to broader digital asset management.

OpenSea's Evolution: Toward a Super Gateway for Crypto Assets

Hollander revealed that OpenSea is building an 'all-asset platform' where users can manage cryptocurrencies, NFTs, collectibles, and cross-chain assets in one place. To lower the entry barrier, the platform has introduced fiat payment features similar to Apple Pay and is testing direct USD pricing instead of ETH denominations. 'Most users don't understand prices like 0.00something ETH,' Hollander said. 'If we want mainstream adoption, the experience must feel like everyday shopping.' This shift reflects a broader industry move from trading volume and meme hype to payment convenience and asset integration.

SEA Token Delay Still Draws Attention

The crypto community is also watching OpenSea's long-awaited $SEA token, which has yet to launch. Although no timeline has been set, the token is seen as a key component of the platform's expansion strategy. Hollander emphasized that the real challenge is transforming NFTs from a niche crypto tool into mainstream digital infrastructure. As the market pivots to collectibles and real-world asset tokenization, OpenSea's ability to deliver on its full-asset vision—potentially powered by the SEA token—will be critical to shaping the next chapter of the NFT industry.
