England’s National Health Service said it plans to provide Microsoft Copilot to as many as 505,000 clinical and support staff starting in June 2026, following a pilot involving 30,000 employees. In that trial, participants saved an average of 43 minutes per working day, which the NHS said is equal to roughly five weeks per person each year. Alec Price-Forbes, NHS England’s national chief clinical information officer, said the health system remains analog in many respects and that digital tools such as AI can reduce cognitive load and administrative work for medical professionals, allowing them to deliver higher-quality care. The NHS also said it has put in place clear and strict safeguards for Copilot use, limiting the tool to administrative tasks and excluding clinical work.
