On June 2, 2026, decentralized mobile carrier Helium Mobile was officially acquired by Noble Mobile, a firm dedicated to making communications services more affordable. Noble Mobile was founded by American entrepreneur and former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang. Helium Mobile, which previously offered a free phone plan (now discontinued), had always focused on leveraging Helium's decentralized network to reduce costs for users.
Low-Cost Strategy and Decentralized Network Synergy
Following the merger, the combined entity will integrate Helium Mobile's token-incentivized decentralized hotspot network with Noble Mobile's operational capabilities. Helium Mobile's network is built on Helium, where users deploy hotspots to earn HNT tokens in return for providing coverage. This model drastically cuts network infrastructure costs, enabling lower service prices. COO Frank Mong stated: “We chose Noble Mobile because our values, vision, and management teams are highly aligned.” The merged company plans to launch a range of low-cost mobile plans, competing directly with traditional giants like Verizon and AT&T through better pricing and flexible coverage, while expanding the decentralized network's footprint in the U.S. and globally.
Andrew Yang, known for his advocacy of Universal Basic Income during the 2020 presidential race, extends his focus on economic accessibility into the communications sector. This acquisition marks his formal entry into the low-cost mobile market, using blockchain-powered infrastructure to offer an alternative to traditional carriers for everyday consumers.
