Decentralized hedge fund Numerai said it has completed its third strategic buyback of Numeraire (NMR), purchasing $1.2 million worth of the token in the open market and lifting its cumulative buybacks over the past year to $3.2 million. The company said the move is meant to keep supporting its machine-learning competition ecosystem built around NMR staking. In Numerai’s system, data scientists stake NMR when submitting models; stronger performance earns rewards, while weaker performance results in the loss of part of the staked tokens. Numerai said this mechanism helps refine the Stake-Weighted Meta Model that powers its hedge fund. Company data also shows that since the first buyback began in July 2025, the number of active accounts on the platform has more than doubled. Assets under management rose from about $560 million at the end of 2025 to roughly $700 million currently. Before this latest buyback, Numerai’s treasury still held about 3.1 million NMR. The firm added that the transaction had already been completed before the announcement and was executed in batches through Coinbase Institutional to reduce the impact on market prices.

Decentralized hedge fund Numerai said it has completed its third strategic buyback of Numeraire (NMR), purchasing $1.2 million worth of NMR in the open market. That brings its cumulative buybacks over the past year to $3.2 million.

Numerai said the latest repurchase is intended to continue supporting its machine-learning competition ecosystem, which is built around an NMR staking mechanism. In that system, data scientists stake NMR when submitting models. Strong predictive performance earns rewards, while weaker results lead to the loss of part of the staked tokens. The company said the structure is used to optimize the Stake-Weighted Meta Model that drives the Numerai hedge fund.

According to official data, since the first buyback was launched in July 2025, the number of active accounts on the platform has grown by more than 100%. Assets under management, or AUM, increased from about $560 million at the end of 2025 to roughly $700 million currently. Before this latest buyback, Numerai’s treasury still held around 3.1 million NMR.

Numerai added that the repurchase had already been completed before the announcement was released. The trades were executed in batches in the open market through Coinbase Institutional to reduce the effect on market prices.
