OCBC, Singapore's largest bank, on July 24 rolled out GOLDX, a tokenized physical gold fund deployed on Ethereum and Solana, targeting institutional investors seeking on-chain exposure to bullion. The product was developed in partnership with Lion Global Investors and digital asset exchange DigiFT, allowing subscriptions via fiat or stablecoins with allocations delivered directly to investors' blockchain wallets.
GOLDX Token Backed by $525M Physical Gold Fund
The GOLDX token tracks the LionGlobal Singapore Physical Gold Fund, launched in December 2025 and holding approximately $525 million in assets under management as of April 16, 2026. Investors gain exposure to physically backed gold without relying on traditional settlement rails, while maintaining a direct link to real-world reserves. OCBC stated the offering is designed for hedge funds, asset managers, and other large investors.
Dual-Chain Strategy and RWA Growth
Choosing both Ethereum and Solana reflects OCBC's aim to balance security and transaction throughput. The broader tokenized real-world asset (RWA) market has crossed $29 billion on public blockchains, up over 10% in the past month, according to rwa.xyz data. Gold-linked products are drawing institutional attention amid geopolitical tensions and currency concerns that sustain safe-haven demand.
Competing Bank Moves: JPMorgan and Standard Chartered
OCBC joins a growing list of global banks moving regulated products on-chain. In December 2025, JPMorgan launched a $100 million tokenized money market fund on Ethereum via its Kinexys platform, targeting institutional cash management with near-real-time settlement. Standard Chartered-backed Libeara introduced the MG 999 fund in Singapore, offering synthetic gold exposure combined with lending to jewelry retailers, in contrast to OCBC's physical backing.
Kenneth Lai, OCBC's head of global markets, said: “Digital assets will play an increasingly important role in financial services and our focus is on bridging traditional finance with the emerging world of decentralized finance.”
OCBC's Blockchain Track Record
The bank previously launched a tokenized equity-linked note for accredited investors in 2023. With total assets of about $526 billion as of December 2025, OCBC ranks among Southeast Asia's largest financial institutions adopting tokenization. The latest move signals accelerating acceptance of public blockchain infrastructure for regulated financial products.
