OpenAI said ChatGPT had surpassed 1 billion active users globally as of the end of July, while its enterprise customer count rose above 2 million. The company outlined a rapid user growth path from 1 million registrations within five days of launch to 200 million in August 2024, 500 million in August 2025, and 800 million in October 2025. OpenAI also said it had previously projected internally that the user base would exceed 1 billion by the end of last year, but growth later stalled, with the latest 100 million users taking about five months to add. To strengthen its service lineup, the company is rolling out GPT-5.6 Sol, the agent tool ChatGPT Work, and lower-priced models GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-5.6 Luna. Beyond product updates, OpenAI is also advancing the Stargate project in the United States with Oracle and SoftBank, and building data centers in South Korea with Samsung and SK.
