OpenAI has rolled out Data Agent inside ChatGPT Work, adding a tool designed for workplace analytics without requiring employees to write SQL. Users can ask questions such as why sales declined or which customer group is most likely to churn, and the agent can pull company data, analyze the issue, and build dashboards that update with the underlying data. The product supports connections to Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, and MongoDB, while also reading files from Google Drive and SharePoint. OpenAI said the system keeps to a company’s existing definitions for metrics such as active users and revenue, and respects current permission settings so teams do not end up calculating the same metric in different ways. After finishing an analysis, the agent can send results through Slack or email, and, once approved by a user, continue with follow-up actions. OpenAI added that nearly all of its product teams, along with more than two-thirds of sales, marketing, and similar teams, are already using this type of data agent.
