OpenAI said on X that its research model, GPT-Rosalind, has produced a new result in drug discovery work by identifying a potential link between cholesterol transport and neurodegenerative disease. The research focused on the DCTN1 gene, which is associated with Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. After analyzing mouse brain data, GPT-Rosalind generated a hypothesis that disruption of the gene may impair the transport of cholesterol needed by neurons, giving researchers a more specific mechanistic direction for developing new therapies. OpenAI also said it worked with Perturb AI and Scripps Research to run thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents in parallel. According to the company, the system connected gene expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in 32 minutes. OpenAI said it is expanding the collaboration to identify additional drug targets.

OpenAI said in a post on X that its research model GPT-Rosalind has made progress in drug discovery research, pointing to a potential link between cholesterol transport and neurodegenerative disease.

The work focused on the DCTN1 gene, which is associated with Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. After analyzing mouse brain data, GPT-Rosalind proposed a hypothesis that disruption of the gene may block the transport of cholesterol needed by neurons. OpenAI said that gives researchers a more specific mechanistic direction for developing new therapies.

OpenAI also said it worked with Perturb AI and Scripps Research, deploying thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents in parallel. The company said the system linked gene expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in just 32 minutes.

OpenAI said it is expanding the collaboration to identify more drug targets.
