Internal Overhaul: 'No More Side Quests' Becomes Mantra
Prism's demise fits a broader internal shift. According to reports, OpenAI has adopted a "no more side quests" directive, concentrating resources on enterprise and core coding tools. The "OpenAI for Science" division was dissolved around April 17, with its team absorbed into groups like Codex. Head of the division Kevin Weil resigned. Even the standalone product plan for video model Sora was shelved. The moves signal a decisive push to streamline operations.
Researchers Scramble for Backups, Data Security Concerns Rise
Prism's sudden shutdown caught many users off guard. Without prior export reminders, unfinished LaTeX source codes were locked inside the platform. Affected users now attempt to reverse-engineer PDF files into LaTeX source code using Codex or GPT-5.2 — a tedious and error-prone process. Community recommendations point to established alternatives: the widely-used cloud LaTeX platform Overleaf, or local setups using VS Code with LaTeX Workshop and Git.
