OpenAI has launched a new student promotion that gives eligible undergraduate and graduate students at U.S. colleges and universities four free months of ChatGPT Plus, a benefit valued at $80. The latest offer is twice as large as last year’s program. In 2025, OpenAI provided two months of Plus to college students in the U.S. and Canada. This year, the company expanded the free period to four months, while narrowing eligibility to qualifying U.S. institutions only.
OpenAI also said students who claimed last year’s discount can apply again if they still meet the eligibility rules. Verification is still handled by SheerID. A school email alone does not guarantee access, and some schools may require single sign-on or additional documents. Reddit users have reported that student IDs and class schedules were rejected in some cases, with tuition payment records ultimately used to complete verification.

Some Reddit users said student ID cards and class schedules did not pass verification. In those cases, uploading tuition payment records eventually completed the process.
