The Opinion (OPN) airdrop, once touted as one of the most anticipated TGEs in early 2026, turned into a disaster for most participants. With a total supply of 1 billion tokens, only 3.5% were unlocked for the community on TGE day, while insiders — team, investors, foundation — collectively held over 54%. Prominent KOL HongKongDoll revealed she spent $50,000 on farming, only to end up with a net loss of $15,000, calling the experience "like swallowing a fly."
Prestigious Backing, Shattered Hopes
Opinion Labs raised a total of $25 million in three rounds: an angel round in August 2024, a $5 million Seed round led by YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs) in March 2025, and a $20 million Pre-Series A in February 2026. Backers included Hack VC, Jump Crypto, and Primitive Ventures — top-tier names in crypto. Hack VC is known for AI and DeFi bets (early backer of Anthropic), while Jump Crypto is a cornerstone of the Solana ecosystem. The prediction market narrative was also hot, fueled by Polymarket and Kalshi's growth. OPN dominated BSC's prediction market with TVL among global top three. Binance even set up a Launchpool allocating 2% of supply — pre-market prices surged 30% to $0.57. Expectations were sky-high, and many poured real money into farming.
KOLs Bleed, Community Fumes
When the airdrop checker went live, hope turned to rage. The official allocation to community was 23.5% (235 million tokens), but only 3.5% (35 million) were immediately unlocked; the rest vested over 7 months. Meanwhile, team & advisors held 19.5%, investors 23%, and foundation 12%. User returns were dismal. Blogger SuoHa (@WEB3_furture) calculated: each point yielded about 15 OPN worth $8.5, while the pre-market price per point peaked at $45. Most farmers had costs above $10. HongKongDoll shared her numbers in Telegram: she spent $50,000 on farming with premium accounts (about 500 points each) and received just over 30,000 OPN — worth less than $15,000 at $0.5 TGE price, leaving her $15,000 in the red. Another KOL, MaTiJuZi, noted that based on Binance pre-market, if airdrop was 5% each point would be worth $11; at 10%, $22 — but with cheaper allocations from Binance Alpha and Booster, collective losses were inevitable.
Sybil Crackdown and Binance Bias Spark Backlash
The project also drew fire for its sybil cleanup efforts, executed just before TGE. Many multi-account farmers saw their points slashed or voided. The community felt this was a "use then discard" tactic, as high-frequency activity had been implicitly encouraged during farming. Binance's allocation became the focal point of anger: while the community got only 3.5% unlocked at TGE, Binance Launchpool received a direct 2% supply, marketing had a 7.7% TGE unlock, and liquidity got 100% unlocked. Accusations flew that Opinion prioritized exchange partners over actual users. Discord and Twitter flooded with terms like "scam" and "rug."
The project's fundamentals — $25 million funding, top-tier VC backing, leading BSC prediction market — remain intact. But no amount of VC prestige can restore trust once the community feels betrayed. Opinion's biggest challenge now may not be market cap management, but rebuilding basic credibility with users.
