OwlTing Group's stablecoin payment infrastructure OwlPay Harbor has been deployed by Hope for Haiti, a U.S.-based nonprofit, to upgrade its international aid funding chain. The organization now converts U.S. dollars into USDC, a regulated stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the dollar, and transfers funds over the Stellar blockchain.
Test transactions have exceeded $100,000. "In Haiti, over 5.7 million people face acute food insecurity. Every dollar must go where it's needed most," said Skyler Badenoch, CEO of Hope for Haiti. "OwlPay gives us blockchain traceability to maximize every donation." OwlTing Group founder and CEO James Wang noted that traditional cross-border payments suffer from delays, high fees, and opacity. Built on the Stellar blockchain for cross-border interoperability, OwlPay Harbor delivered measurable results: real-time verification with financial audit trails, a 93% reduction in transfer costs by bypassing intermediary banks (saving thousands of dollars in initial tests, redirected to frontline aid), and settlement time slashed from days to seconds. The first test funds reached over 300 beneficiaries and partner suppliers in Haiti. Both parties plan to scale the stablecoin infrastructure for further humanitarian operations.
Haiti's Deepening Crisis: Schools Closed, Hospitals Paralyzed
By end of 2025, over 1,600 schools in Haiti had been forced to close, affecting more than 243,000 children and 7,500 teachers. UNICEF reports that 26% of the population lacks safe drinking water, and according to OCHA, only 10% of hospitals and health centers remain fully operational. Despite this, Hope for Haiti provided over 100,000 medical consultations and supported nearly 7,400 students in 2024. The organization transfers tens of millions of dollars annually, with traditional delays posing severe risks to relief operations.
The United Nations' 2026 Global Humanitarian Overview estimates that relief agencies need to mobilize $33 billion to assist 136 million people worldwide. The successful deployment of OwlPay Harbor by Hope for Haiti serves as a proof-of-concept for addressing the $33 billion humanitarian remittance challenge.
