Bitcoin 2025 Conference: Central America’s Bitcoin Wave
At the Bitcoin 2025 Conference in Las Vegas, a panel titled 'Is Panama Next? El Salvador Leading The Region For Bitcoin Adoption' gathered key figures from Central America. The panel included Mike Peterson, Director of Bitcoin Beach; Max and Stacy, Presidential Advisors on Bitcoin for El Salvador; and Mayer Mizrachi, Mayor of Panama City. They discussed the future of Bitcoin adoption in the region.
Panama City Accepts Bitcoin: Safe and Prosperous
Mayor Mizrachi opened the discussion by stating, “We accept Bitcoin. The city gets paid in Bitcoin, but it receives in dollars through an intermediary processing, payments processor. Bitcoin is not just safe. It’s prosperous.” This pragmatic approach leverages Bitcoin’s efficiency while mitigating volatility by converting to USD.
El Salvador’s Leading Experience: Law and Education
Max, a presidential advisor, detailed early measures: “We created The Bitcoin Office, which reports directly to the President, and passed a law declaring Bitcoin as money and everything else as unregistered security.” This regulatory clarity aims to combat scams. Stacy added, “El Salvador is the first country in the world to have a comprehensive public school financial literacy education program from 7 years old.” These young students learn financial basics from an early age.
Regional Economic Integration and Game Theory
Mike Peterson asserted, “The access of Bitcoin in Central America is to battle against the globalists that have always looked at the region as their backyard. This is intolerable and will change now.” Mayor Mizrachi envisioned an economic bloc “powered by El Salvador, supported by Panama.” Max concluded with game theory: “The US wants to buy a lot of Bitcoin; if Panama also buys, it helps everyone. Bitcoin changes the mentality from spending to saving.” The discussion inspired attendees, marking a new chapter for Bitcoin in Central America.
