The People’s Bank of China is set to issue a set of "Sci-Tech Future (Artificial Intelligence)" gold and silver commemorative coins, according to BlockBeats. The set includes three coins in total — one gold coin and two silver coins — and all of them are legal tender. The gold coin weighs 5 grams and is designed in an 18 mm square format. Its reverse features elements such as a chip, brain-shaped circuitry, and binary digits 0 and 1. The two silver coins each weigh 15 grams and use designs that include a human face, circuit patterns, spiral dot arrays, as well as a key and artificial intelligence symbols. The gold coin carries a face value of 80 yuan, with a maximum issuance of 10,000 pieces. Each silver coin has a face value of 5 yuan, with a maximum issuance of 20,000 pieces each. The report noted that face value does not equal sale price, as precious metal commemorative coins are priced based on factors including gold and silver material costs and minting costs. BlockBeats also said that when design submissions were solicited in March, organizers allowed contributors to use AI tools for assistance, but prohibited direct submission of AI-generated content.

The People’s Bank of China will issue a set of "Sci-Tech Future (Artificial Intelligence)" gold and silver commemorative coins in September, according to BlockBeats. The set includes three coins — one gold coin and two silver coins — and all are legal tender.

Three-coin set details

The gold coin weighs 5 grams and comes in an 18 mm square shape. Its reverse side features a chip, brain-like circuit patterns, and binary elements such as 0 and 1.

The two silver coins each weigh 15 grams. Their designs include a human face, circuitry, spiral dot-matrix patterns, as well as a key and artificial intelligence symbols.

The gold coin has a face value of 80 yuan and a maximum issuance of 10,000 pieces. Each of the two silver coins has a face value of 5 yuan, with a maximum issuance of 20,000 pieces each.

Face value is not the sale price

The report said the stated denomination is not the retail price. For precious metal commemorative coins, the face value mainly indicates their status as legal tender, while the actual sale price depends on factors such as gold and silver input costs and production costs.

AI-assisted design was allowed during the submission stage

BlockBeats said that when organizers collected design proposals in March this year, they explicitly allowed designers to use AI tools to assist their work, but barred direct submission of AI-generated content.

At that stage, the three coins were assigned themes covering basic research in artificial intelligence, technology for social good, and the application of "AI+" across industries.
