PeckShield reported that an attacker-controlled wallet on Base, starting with 0x920d, moved roughly 500,000 USDC from a victim wallet starting with 0x3a53. That is equivalent to about $500,000 at face value for the stablecoin. PeckShield said its monitoring systems detected the transfer on the Base network. When the attacker tried to swap the stolen USDC, the transaction carried insufficient slippage protection. As a result, MEV bots executed a sandwich attack on the swap. The final result: the attacker received around 67 WETH, worth roughly $129,000, according to PeckShield. More than half of the stolen amount was therefore lost in the attempted conversion. The security firm described the event in an alert on Aug. 6, 2026.
