Odaily, citing Reuters, reported that Polish President Karol Nawrocki said in a statement on Thursday that he had vetoed for the third time a bill designed to regulate cryptocurrencies and implement European Union rules. Nawrocki said the reason for the veto was that the bill did not incorporate the objections he had previously raised.
Polish lawmakers passed the cryptocurrency regulation bill in May. The legislation was intended to implement the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, which Poland was required to approve before July. Nawrocki had already vetoed related legislation twice before, making Thursday’s statement his third rejection of the measure.
In the statement, Nawrocki said he supports regulation of the cryptocurrency industry and consumer protection. At the same time, he said the government had ignored most of the proposals prepared by his office. According to his remarks, he would sign the bill into law if it were amended.
