Polygon has introduced Supernets, a new blockchain framework built on top of Polygon Edge and designed to reduce development complexity while supporting broader Web3 adoption. Alongside the launch, the company said it will allocate $100 million to early Supernets users that can help speed up ecosystem growth.

A dedicated blockchain model built on Polygon Edge

Polygon Edge was originally launched as a customizable blockchain stack that lets developers create purpose-built networks for specific applications. With Supernets, Polygon is packaging that foundation into a more streamlined product with fewer technical and operational hurdles. The company describes Supernets as dedicated, scalable blockchains intended for a particular app, project, or use case, effectively offering projects a more tailored Web3 hosting environment.

According to Polygon, Supernets can be secured using MATIC PoS validators, are interoperable, and can be managed by certified partners. The framework also supports any Edge architecture, giving teams flexibility in how they structure their networks. Polygon added that more than 20 projects are already building on Edge, and lessons from those teams helped shape the new rollout.

$100 million aimed at early ecosystem expansion

To drive awareness and adoption, Polygon said the $100 million support fund will be distributed across several categories, including development contracts, research contracts, grants, third-party integrations and partnerships, onboarding and migration, liquidity mining, and acquisitions. The funding plan shows that Polygon is not only launching infrastructure, but also trying to remove commercial barriers for early adopters.

The announcement also fits into Polygon’s broader push across the last year. In February, the project raised $450 million from investors including Sequoia Capital India, Softbank, and Kevin O’Leary. In December, Polygon acquired Mir Protocol for $400 million and launched a $200 million Web3-focused social media fund with Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six. Earlier this month, the company also announced a zero-knowledge identity platform for Web3.

Reducing complexity to help projects move faster

Polygon co-founder Mihailo Bjelic said mass adoption of Web3 will require abstracting away blockchain development complexity while still offering scalability and customization. In that context, Supernets is positioned as a tool that can help projects accelerate their blockchain ambitions and join Polygon’s growing multi-chain ecosystem more quickly.

Overall, the launch highlights Polygon’s strategy of expanding through modular, app-specific infrastructure rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all chain. By combining technical simplification with direct financial incentives, Supernets is being framed as a key part of Polygon’s next phase of Web3 growth.
