ProShares, the global leader in leveraged and inverse ETFs, announced on July 22 that it will launch a 2x daily long single-stock ETF tracking SpaceX on June 12, 2026 — the same day the space exploration company is expected to go public. The product, ProShares Ultra SpaceX (ticker SPCF), breaks the tradition of minimal leverage tools for newly listed stocks and pushes the space economy into the high-risk derivatives spotlight.
Record-Breaking IPO: $75 Billion Raise, $1.75 Trillion Valuation
SpaceX's IPO is poised to become the largest in history. The company aims to raise $75 billion and expects a post-listing valuation of $1.75 trillion. ProShares currently manages over 115 leveraged ETFs with total leveraged assets exceeding $90 billion. SPCF will join its single-stock long series, which already includes products for Circle, Coinbase, NVIDIA, Palantir, and Tesla — all offering 2x daily returns.
CEO Michael L. Sapir said SPCF allows investors to “amplify a bullish view on SpaceX” on the first trading day, using the convenience and transparency of an ETF, while sidestepping the complexity of margin borrowing.
Structural Risks: Daily Reset May Widen Tracking Error
The official filing includes stark risk warnings. SPCF is a daily-reset single-stock leveraged ETF. Holding beyond one day can cause cumulative returns to diverge significantly from 2x of SpaceX's actual return due to compounding and volatility, especially in volatile or range-bound markets. Furthermore, the ETF has zero diversification; performance hinges entirely on SpaceX's shares. As a newly public company, SpaceX may face high volatility, low liquidity, and short trading history. Large ETF holdings could also influence the underlying stock price.
Space Industry Hazards: Government Ties and Black Swans
Beyond derivative risks, SpaceX faces unique operating challenges. The company is subject to stringent government regulations, export controls, and national security requirements. A large portion of its revenue depends heavily on government contracts, which can be delayed, reduced, or terminated at any time. Other black-swan events include rocket launch failures, technology delays, intensifying competition, supply chain disruptions, and cyberattacks. ProShares stresses that the ETF does not guarantee its investment objective and investors could lose their entire principal. It urges a thorough review of the prospectus and regular portfolio monitoring.
