Josh Neuroth, Vice President of Product at QuickNode, says the growing interest in zero-knowledge rollups should not be dismissed as another speculative crypto fad. In comments shared in an interview, Neuroth argued that ZK rollups are drawing attention for a very different reason than the NFT boom of 2020 and 2021: they offer practical answers to some of the hardest technical problems in blockchain networks, especially scalability and privacy.

His remarks frame ZK rollups not as a narrative-driven trend, but as a core layer of infrastructure that could improve transaction throughput, strengthen confidentiality, and make blockchain systems more usable over time. As the technology matures and adoption broadens, Neuroth believes the benefits could extend across Web3, improving both network performance and the user experience.

A Technical Case Rather Than a Speculative One

One of Neuroth’s clearest arguments is that the current enthusiasm around ZK rollups is rooted in technical utility. He contrasted the sector’s momentum with the NFT frenzy, which he described as largely fueled by speculation. In the case of ZK rollups, he said, the underlying interest is tied to their capacity to improve blockchain infrastructure in measurable ways.

That distinction matters. Crypto markets have repeatedly cycled through themes driven more by attention and capital than by durable engineering progress. Neuroth’s position is that ZK rollups belong in a different category. Their promise lies in concrete functionality: enabling more transactions to be handled efficiently while also improving how sensitive data is protected. Neuroth also addressed the relevance of ZK rollups to Bitcoin, agreeing in part with the view that they may represent a missing piece in the network’s evolution. Referencing arguments that Bitcoin needs stronger scaling and privacy capabilities to fulfill a larger monetary role, he said ZK rollups can play a meaningful part in that process.

According to Neuroth, Bitcoin’s broader adoption as a global monetary system depends in part on overcoming practical limits. ZK rollups, in his view, can help by making transactions more efficient and by improving privacy protections. Those upgrades would not only address long-standing concerns around user experience and network functionality, but could also allow Bitcoin to compete more effectively with blockchain ecosystems that already offer more advanced features.

His comments do not present ZK rollups as a complete answer to every challenge facing Bitcoin. Instead, they position the technology as an important tool that can expand what the network is capable of doing, particularly in areas where base-layer constraints have remained a persistent topic of debate.

Bridging DeFi and Traditional Finance Still Requires Better Infrastructure

Beyond Bitcoin, Neuroth pointed to another major industry objective: connecting decentralized finance with traditional financial systems. He said the convergence of DeFi and TradFi remains technically difficult, and that progress depends on making Web3 systems easier to build with, integrate, and operate.

In his view, robust and secure APIs are essential for interoperability between blockchain networks and legacy financial infrastructure. Without reliable interfaces, institutions and developers face friction when trying to connect onchain applications to offchain financial environments. He also emphasized the importance of high throughput and low latency, especially because financial use cases place stricter performance demands on infrastructure than many consumer-oriented blockchain applications.

Neuroth argued that the industry also needs to simplify the complexity of Web3. Better developer add-ons, stronger support tooling, and greater abstraction of the underlying technical stack could lower barriers for teams trying to build systems that connect decentralized and conventional finance. That developer experience layer, in his telling, is not secondary to adoption—it is central to it.

QuickNode’s Role in the ZK Rollup Stack

QuickNode itself is positioning as a service provider for the teams building in this area. Neuroth said the company supports ZK rollups through infrastructure products including RPC access, node hosting, API services, and data indexing. These services are designed to help developers implement rollup-based systems without having to manage every infrastructure challenge internally.

He also highlighted supporting tools such as faucet services and marketplace add-ons, arguing that these elements are important for teams building on ZK-rollup-enabled networks. By reducing the number of low-level operational tasks developers must handle directly, the company’s approach is meant to let projects focus more on application design and product innovation.

The broader idea is that rollup adoption will depend not just on cryptographic sophistication, but on whether the ecosystem can make deployment and maintenance straightforward enough for both startups and larger organizations.

RaaS as a Shortcut to Deployment and Scale

A key part of QuickNode’s strategy is its Rollup as a Service (RaaS) platform. Neuroth described the product as a way to simplify the deployment and scaling of blockchain rollups by packaging essential infrastructure into a more accessible service model. According to him, the platform provides developers with top-tier RPC access, sequencer support, faucet services, and marketplace add-ons.

The goal is to eliminate much of the infrastructure management that would otherwise slow down teams launching rollup-based applications. Instead of spending significant time setting up and maintaining nodes, developers can rely on managed services and focus on building products. Neuroth said this can reduce both development time and cost.

He framed the platform as useful for two different types of customers. For enterprises, the value lies in being able to deploy and scale rollups quickly while relying on a robust infrastructure layer for performance and reliability. For smaller teams, the platform offers a more accessible way to build and test applications in a testnet environment without carrying the full burden of infrastructure management.

That positioning reflects a larger theme in the interview: if rollups are going to become mainstream, the supporting ecosystem has to serve both large institutions and lean development teams. Infrastructure providers, in that sense, become enablers of adoption as much as protocol designers do.

From Narrative to Infrastructure

Taken together, Neuroth’s comments suggest that the market conversation around ZK rollups is maturing. Rather than focusing only on the excitement surrounding zero-knowledge technology, he points to a more durable framework: infrastructure value. If ZK rollups continue to deliver on throughput, privacy, and developer usability, they may move from being a prominent sub-sector within crypto to becoming a standard building block across blockchain systems.

That does not guarantee rapid or universal adoption. But the argument from QuickNode’s product leadership is clear: the attention around ZK rollups is justified not because they are fashionable, but because they target structural limits in blockchain design. In a market often criticized for chasing narratives, that is a meaningful distinction.
