RaveDAO's RAVE token skyrocketed 10,000% since April 1, reaching a $6.6B market cap and entering the top 20. A brutal short squeeze liquidated 16,000 traders, while critics warn of a pump-and-dump with insiders controlling 90% of supply, echoing past crash patterns.

The utility token of Web3 music protocol RaveDAO, RAVE, continued its explosive rally on April 18, surging nearly 50% in 24 hours to hit a new all-time high of $27.88. Since April 1, the token has achieved a staggering 10,000% gain, propelling its market capitalization to approximately $6.6 billion. Within a week, RAVE climbed from a micro-cap token to the 19th largest cryptocurrency by market cap on CoinGecko, overtaking established assets such as XMR, XLM, and ZEC, and appearing poised to surpass LINK.

Liquidation Mayhem: 16,000 Traders Wiped Out in a Short Squeeze

RAVE's extreme volatility triggered a cascade of leveraged position liquidations. Data shows that over 16,000 traders were forcibly liquidated within 24 hours, with total liquidations reaching $19 million. Short positions accounted for nearly $17 million of that sum. The single largest liquidation order was $161,505. Despite 74% of Binance traders positioning for a decline, a brutal short squeeze erased $17 million in short positions in a single day, caught bears off guard.

Centralization Red Flags: Insiders Control 90% of Supply

RAVE's meteoric rise has been mired in controversy. Angel investor Jeremy posted on X that roughly 10 hours before the price explosion, wallets linked to the RaveDAO deployer quietly moved 18.58 million tokens to Bitget without any announcement. He characterized the rally as a "calculated short squeeze engineered on a low-float asset." With only 248 million tokens in circulation out of a total supply of 1 billion, the core team controls a staggering 90% of the total supply. The value of the uncirculated tokens has surged from just $195 million on April 1 to $19.44 billion at current prices, raising serious concerns about future stability.

Jeremy also noted that open interest in RAVE futures ballooned past $200 million, while the relative strength index (RSI) pierced the 95 level, signaling an extremely overextended market. Daily trading volume hit $270 million, effectively matching the project's entire market cap at the time. This distribution structure and suspicious wallet activity have led many observers to label the price action as a classic "pump and dump," where insiders profit at the expense of retail traders.

Lessons from the Past: ARIA and SIREN Crashes Loom Large

Social media skepticism is mounting, with users drawing parallels to recent moon shots like ARIA and SIREN. Those projects also posted astronomical gains over a short horizon, only to suffer catastrophic collapses, leaving retail investors holding the bag as liquidity evaporated. While RaveDAO has not issued any official response, the concentration of supply and the lack of transparency about token distribution have fueled fears that history may repeat itself. The ongoing rally offers high-risk traders temporary profits, but the underlying structure suggests a painful unwind may be inevitable.
