A Reddit post has reignited debate in the XRP community over whether Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin undercuts XRP’s role in institutional cross-border settlement.

A Reddit thread has triggered fresh debate inside the XRP community after a user said they spent two to three hours testing XRP’s investment case with Claude and DeepSeek. The exercise was prompted by a German finance analyst’s $9 mid-term price target for XRP. What came back from the AI tools was not a bullish endorsement, but a set of structural concerns centered on Ripple’s own stablecoin, RLUSD.

Why RLUSD became the focal point

The main argument is straightforward. Banks generally avoid volatility, while XRP’s original institutional pitch was to act as a bridge asset between fiat pairs, absorbing liquidity needs during a brief transaction hop. Ripple now offers RLUSD, a dollar-pegged stablecoin operating on its own infrastructure. That has led some community members to ask why financial institutions would choose to take XRP price risk if they can use Ripple’s software with a price-stable asset instead.

The Reddit post framed this as a direct challenge to XRP’s most important institutional use case. In that reading, the threat is not coming from an outside rival but from a product Ripple itself introduced.

SWIFT and Chainlink entered the discussion

The AI response also raised an alternative settlement model. Rather than replacing existing financial rails, SWIFT is described in the discussion as connecting its network to blockchains through Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure. The post noted that SWIFT serves more than 11,000 institutions worldwide. It also cited analysts mentioned in the debate who set a five-year target of $100 to $150 for LINK from a current price of $9, with the argument that a 10x to 15x move in LINK may require less capital than XRP reaching $9.

The comparison was presented as a clash between two models: Ripple building both the rails and the asset, and SWIFT keeping its existing system while extending it through Chainlink integration.

Sell pressure was part of the thesis

Beyond the utility debate, the AI flagged heavy sell pressure for XRP between $2.40 and $3.00. According to the discussion, that supply is concentrated among long-term holders, which could make a clean breakout harder even if bullish momentum returns.

The Reddit post ultimately cast the issue as a competition between two approaches to global financial settlement. The argument did not settle the question, but it did sharpen one point: if RLUSD gains traction in institutional payments, XRP’s original bridge-asset thesis is likely to face much closer scrutiny.
