Trading Protocol has issued an urgent warning following a private key leak of Resolv USD (USR), which caused the value of collateral in multiple Vaults to plunge overnight. The incident has particularly impacted Morpho Vaults, triggering abnormal yield spikes that mask severe liquidity risks.
How the Private Key Leak Triggered a Cascade
According to Trading Protocol’s analysis, the compromised private key allowed attackers to manipulate certain staked assets, leading to sharp price volatility in collateral. The USR token dropped -3.14% in a single day, while the MORPHO token rose +1.51% — a divergence likely driven by panic trading rather than fundamental improvements. Morpho Vaults, which heavily relied on Resolv USD as core collateral, saw their collateral values collapse, triggering liquidation thresholds and causing liquidity pools to tighten abruptly.
Liquidity Crisis: Withdrawals Face Delays
The team warns that liquidity in several Vaults has degraded significantly, making it uncertain whether users can withdraw funds in a timely manner. Although some Vault compliance managers have already reduced maximum deposit limits to zero to block new inflows, other Vaults have yet to complete risk isolation measures. Users are strongly advised against depositing funds solely based on abnormally high APYs — such yields may signal a liquidity trap rather than an opportunity.
“We strongly urge users not to deposit assets just because of high APY,” Trading Protocol stated. “Liquidity issues could freeze withdrawals, trapping funds for days or even weeks.” The team is now coordinating with affected protocols to assess the damage and devise recovery plans.
Why Risk Isolation Lags Behind
Industry analysts point out that the incident exposes weaknesses in DeFi lending protocols’ risk isolation mechanisms. While Morpho Vaults were designed to optimize capital efficiency through dynamic interest rate models, their pool isolation strategy may not be robust enough to contain shocks from extreme events. Trading Protocol has called on all relevant Vaults to finalize risk isolation measures as soon as possible, and urged users to closely monitor their collateralization ratios.
As of writing, the MORPHO token has rebounded from its lows, but USR remains under pressure. Market sentiment is cautious, with some investors already exiting liquidity pools involving Resolv USD.
A Wake-up Call for DeFi
The private key leak serves as a stark reminder that even mature stablecoin protocols are not immune to centralization risks. Resolv USD’s private key management flaw has sent shockwaves through the DeFi ecosystem, affecting lending protocols and liquidity providers alike. Trading Protocol says it will strengthen pre-event audits on private key security and push for stricter collateral admission standards going forward.
For ordinary users, the key lesson is clear: high APY often comes with high risk. Until the current liquidity crisis is fully resolved, any deposit activity lured by high yields should be reconsidered.
