On August 7, 2025, Ripple announced its acquisition of Rail, a payments infrastructure platform specializing in stablecoin transactions, for $200 million. The deal, subject to regulatory approval and expected to close in Q4, is positioned to significantly enhance Ripple's enterprise offering. Ripple stated: “With this deal, Ripple and Rail will deliver the most comprehensive stablecoin payments solution available in the market.”
Building the Ultimate Stablecoin Payments Powerhouse
Rail currently processes over 10% of the projected $36 billion in global B2B stablecoin payment volume in 2025. The platform brings an API-based infrastructure, more than 12 banking partners, and automation tools designed to eliminate legacy inefficiencies. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse commented on X: “Ripple + Rail together will be THE go-to provider of stablecoin payments infrastructure for global financial institutions around the world.”
Ripple President Monica Long added: “Stablecoins are quickly becoming a cornerstone of modern finance, and with Rail, we are uniquely positioned to drive the next phase of innovation and adoption of stablecoins and blockchain in global payments.” Rail CEO Bhanu Kohli emphasized the momentum: “Rail now powers over 10% of all global B2B stablecoin payment volume — and we’re just getting started.”
Broader Expansion Across Blockchain Finance
This acquisition is part of a broader expansion by Ripple into blockchain finance. Ripple has partnered with Ctrl Alt to enhance digital asset custody in the Middle East, selected BNY to safeguard Ripple USD reserves (emphasizing institutional security), and collaborated with Openpayd to support stablecoin and payment infrastructure. Additionally, Ripple is acquiring multi-asset prime broker Hidden Road to expand into trading, custody, and lending. These moves underscore Ripple’s ambition to build an integrated stablecoin ecosystem spanning issuance, custody, payments, and trading.
Industry observers believe that by combining Rail’s API-driven stablecoin payment network with Ripple’s existing blockchain infrastructure (XRP Ledger), Ripple can offer financial institutions a always-on, compliant, and cost-effective alternative to traditional correspondent banking. The acquisition also positions Ripple to capture a significant share of the rapidly growing stablecoin payment market, especially in cross-border B2B transactions where settlement times and fees remain pain points.
