Ripple has announced that institutional clients using its prime brokerage platform Ripple Prime can now trade the full set of futures contracts listed on Coinbase Derivatives, with clearing handled by Nodal Clear, a U.S.-regulated derivatives clearing organization. The integration connects Ripple's institutional infrastructure directly to a regulated futures exchange and clearing house, providing a structured route for professional traders to access crypto derivatives.
Nano BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP Futures Available
Through this collaboration, Ripple Prime clients can access Coinbase Derivatives' full contract lineup within a regulated environment. Contracts include nano Bitcoin futures, nano Ethereum futures, as well as institutional and nano-sized contracts for Solana and XRP. Nano contracts are designed for smaller position sizes compared to standard crypto futures, allowing traders to fine-tune exposure or manage risk more precisely. The futures trade 24/7, reflecting the around-the-clock nature of crypto markets, and are subject to U.S. derivatives oversight.
Nodal Clear: Central Clearing Under U.S. Regulation
All contracts traded via Ripple Prime are cleared through Nodal Clear, which acts as central counterparty to mitigate counterparty risk. Paul Cusenza, chairman and CEO of Nodal Clear, commented: “Through this relationship, Ripple’s clients can now efficiently access the full suite of Coinbase Derivatives contracts, further diversifying the trading opportunities available through our clearing services.” Nodal Clear provides clearing for multiple derivatives markets and operates under U.S. regulatory supervision.
Ripple Prime: Over $3 Trillion in Volume Cleared in 2025
The futures access is delivered through Ripple Prime, a multi-asset prime brokerage platform that offers clearing, financing and trading technology. The platform was built following Ripple's acquisition of Hidden Road Partners CIV US LLC, a futures commission merchant. Ripple Prime cleared more than $3 trillion in trading activity during 2025, the company said. Noel Kimmel, president of Ripple Prime, stated: “Offering the full suite of Coinbase Derivatives contracts within Ripple Prime’s clearing framework underscores our commitment to delivering increased market access and efficiency to institutions globally.”
Coinbase Derivatives: Regulated Crypto Futures Exchange
Coinbase Derivatives operates a U.S.-regulated futures exchange listing crypto-linked contracts and select commodity contracts. These instruments allow traders to hedge, speculate or manage portfolio risk. Boris Ilyevsky, head of Coinbase’s U.S. futures exchange, said: “As demand for regulated crypto futures continues to grow, this collaboration reinforces our commitment to delivering liquidity, contract innovation and continuous trading within a regulated environment.” Institutional investors increasingly turn to derivatives to gain crypto exposure without directly holding underlying assets.
Institutional Infrastructure Converging
The partnership highlights how infrastructure providers are bridging cryptocurrency markets with traditional financial systems. Prime brokerage, clearing houses and regulated exchanges form the core infrastructure for institutional trading. As digital asset markets mature, institutions seek to trade crypto derivatives through the same risk management and clearing frameworks used for traditional assets. The collaboration between Ripple, Coinbase Derivatives and Nodal Clear reflects deepening convergence between crypto markets and regulated derivatives, reshaping how professional firms interact with digital asset derivatives.
