Ripple has taken a decisive step toward full regulatory compliance in Europe after securing a "Green Light Letter" from Luxembourg's Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier for its Crypto Asset Service Provider application. While the approval is subject to final conditions, the preliminary authorization clears a crucial hurdle under the European Union's MiCA framework.
Once finalized, the CASP license will permit Ripple to extend regulated crypto services across all 30 European Economic Area (EEA) countries. The milestone arrives as banks, fintech firms and payment providers increasingly explore blockchain-based financial infrastructure.
Dual License Approach Strengthens European Footprint
The CASP license will complement Ripple's existing Electronic Money Institution license in the EU. Financial institutions will gain access to Ripple's cryptoasset and stablecoin payments infrastructure through a single integration, enabling them to collect, exchange and distribute digital assets while meeting regulatory requirements. The authorization also gives Ripple room to broaden its cryptoasset offerings as institutional demand rises across Europe.
Cassie Craddock, Ripple's Managing Director for the UK and Europe, said the MiCA framework has accelerated institutional adoption of digital assets in the region. She noted that financial market infrastructure is increasingly moving on-chain, particularly in payments, settlements, collateral management and tokenized assets. Banks and fintech firms are actively developing digital asset capabilities to stay competitive, and Ripple believes its regulatory experience and infrastructure position it well to support that shift.
Europe remains one of Ripple's largest markets. The company serves several major financial institutions across the region and continues to expand its footprint through regulatory approvals and strategic partnerships.
Regulatory Momentum Builds After UK FCA License
The preliminary nod follows Ripple's receipt of an EMI license and cryptoasset registration from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority in January 2026. Upon final approval, Ripple's combined CASP and EMI licenses will make the company fully MiCA compliant. Ripple now holds more than 75 regulatory licenses globally, making it one of the most licensed entities in the digital asset industry, according to the company.
Matthew Osborne, Ripple's Head of Policy for the UK and Europe, said Luxembourg has established itself as a leading center for financial services regulation, and its supervisory expertise and digital asset framework made it a natural location for Ripple's European operations.
Payments Business Crosses $100 Billion in Volume
Ripple's payments business continues to grow. The company reported that Ripple Payments has processed over $100 billion in transaction volume and operates across more than 60 markets worldwide. The preliminary CASP approval marks another major regulatory milestone for Ripple as it moves toward full MiCA compliance and positions itself to expand regulated digital asset services throughout the European market.
