Ripple, a leading digital asset infrastructure provider, officially announced on Tuesday the exchange partners and initial availability of its USD-denominated stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD). The stablecoin will be accessible globally through strategic collaborations with major platforms including Uphold, Bitstamp, Bitso, Moonpay, Independent Reserve, Coinmena, and Bullish. Positioned as an enterprise-grade stablecoin, RLUSD aims to serve a wide range of financial use cases, from payments and real-world asset tokenization to decentralized finance (DeFi).
Full Backing, Transparency, and Governance
Ripple emphasized that each RLUSD token is 100% backed by U.S. dollar deposits, U.S. government bonds, and cash equivalents. To ensure maximum transparency, the company will publish monthly third-party audited attestations of its reserve assets, conducted by BPM. Moreover, former Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chair Sheila Bair and former Centre Consortium CEO David Puth have joined Ripple’s advisory board to oversee the stablecoin’s rollout and regulatory compliance.
Market makers B2C2 and Keyrock have been engaged to provide robust liquidity for RLUSD across supported exchanges, ensuring smooth trading and minimal slippage.
CEO Vision and Ecosystem Integration
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated: “Customers and partners have been asking for high-quality stablecoins like RLUSD to use across various financial use cases, such as payments, tokenization of real-world assets, and decentralized finance. Our payment solutions will leverage RLUSD, XRP, and other digital assets to enable faster, more reliable, and cost-effective cross-border payments.” This comment highlights RLUSD’s role alongside XRP within Ripple’s existing payment network (RippleNet and ODL), rather than replacing it.
Market Reception and Competitive Landscape
Coinmena CEO Talal Tabbaa commented: “Stablecoins have proven to be the killer use case for crypto so far, providing users with a fast, secure, and reliable way to transact globally. By listing RLUSD, Coinmena is proud to offer our users access to a stablecoin issued by one of the most accomplished crypto companies in the world.” He added that Ripple’s extensive experience with both traditional finance and crypto companies positions RLUSD to quickly become one of the most popular stablecoins.
Industry observers note that RLUSD enters a market dominated by Tether (USDT) and Circle (USDC), which together command over 90% of the stablecoin market cap. However, Ripple’s compliance pedigree (including licenses from the New York Department of Financial Services and other global regulators) and its deep integration with cross-border payment flows could give it a unique edge. The company plans to expand the stablecoin’s utility into DeFi protocols and real-world asset tokenization in the coming months, while continuously adding new exchange partners.
RLUSD is expected to be fully operational by early 2025, with the first wave of trading pairs and integrations going live shortly after the announcement.
