Ripple, a leading provider of digital asset infrastructure, announced on Tuesday the global availability of its USD-denominated stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD), through strategic partnerships with seven major exchanges and platforms. The initial exchange partners include Uphold, Bitstamp, Bitso, Moonpay, Independent Reserve, Coinmena, and Bullish, covering key markets across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
Fully Backed and Transparently Audited
Each RLUSD token is 100% backed by U.S. dollar deposits, U.S. government bonds, and cash equivalents, ensuring price stability. To guarantee transparency, Ripple will publish monthly third-party audit attestations conducted by BPM, allowing the public to verify the reserve assets. This mechanism mirrors the transparency practices of leading stablecoins like USDC and USDT, aiming to build trust among users and regulators.
Top Regulatory and Market Expertise
Ripple strengthened RLUSD's governance by adding two prominent figures to its advisory board: former Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chair Sheila Bair and former Centre Consortium CEO David Puth. Their experience in banking regulation and stablecoin operations will guide RLUSD's compliance and global strategy. Additionally, market makers B2C2 and Keyrock have been appointed to provide liquidity, ensuring deep order books and smooth trading on the listed exchanges.
Use Cases: Payments, RWA Tokenization, and DeFi
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse emphasized the utility of RLUSD across various financial applications: “Customers and partners have been asking for high-quality stablecoins like RLUSD to use across various financial use cases, such as payments, tokenization of real-world assets, and decentralized finance. Our payment solutions will leverage RLUSD, XRP, and other digital assets to enable faster, more reliable, and cost-effective cross-border payments.” RLUSD will be integrated into Ripple's existing payment network, complementing XRP and giving institutional users more flexibility.
Industry Reactions
Coinmena CEO Talal Tabbaa commented: “Stablecoins have proven to be the killer use case for crypto so far, providing users with a fast, secure, and reliable way to transact globally. By listing RLUSD, Coinmena is proud to offer our users access to a stablecoin issued by one of the most accomplished crypto companies in the world. With Ripple’s extensive experience working with both traditional finance and crypto companies, I’m confident that RLUSD will quickly rise to become one of the most popular stablecoins on the market.” Other exchange partners echoed similar confidence, highlighting RLUSD's compliance and transparency as key differentiators.
Ripple’s stablecoin launch comes at a time when the global stablecoin market is intensely competitive, dominated by USDT and USDC. However, RLUSD’s deep ties to Ripple’s cross-border payment network and its robust regulatory framework position it well to capture a share of the institutional stablecoin demand. The introduction of RLUSD also creates synergies with XRP, as both assets will be used in Ripple’s payment solutions to optimize speed and cost.
