Ripple has introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit for developers building payment apps for AI agents, while adding x402 support on XRP Ledger so agents can pay with XRP or RLUSD.

Ripple has released the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a new toolkit aimed at developers building AI-powered payment applications on the XRP Ledger. The package also adds support for the x402 payment standard, allowing AI agents to use XRP or RLUSD to pay for API calls, AI model inference, and other internet-based services.

Initial rollout centers on developer tools and documentation

According to Ripple, the toolkit is meant to help developers create applications in which AI agents can send, receive, and manage payments on XRPL with limited human involvement. The launch is being introduced in phases, and the first stage is focused on developer tooling, documentation, and integrations.

The initial release includes access to the XRPL Docs MCP Server. Compatible clients such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and custom agent frameworks can use it to retrieve XRP Ledger documentation when needed. Ripple also said it has added wallet and payment skills for Claude, covering wallet creation, balance checks, payments, and transaction tracking.

x402 support brings open-standard payments to AI agents on XRPL

Alongside the toolkit launch, Ripple said the XRP Ledger now supports the x402 protocol through a contribution from partner t54. With that integration, AI agents can make payments for API requests, AI inference, and other online services using XRP or RLUSD under the open payment standard.

Ripple said XRP Ledger is suited to AI-driven payments because it offers deterministic transaction finality, settlement times of about 3 to 5 seconds, and predictable transaction costs without gas fee auctions. The company also pointed to the network’s native decentralized exchange and multi-currency payment features.

Ripple positions RLUSD for stable-value agent payments

Ripple said an agent can complete a transaction that sends RLUSD while delivering XRP to the recipient, with conversion handled through the protocol’s built-in exchange layer instead of external bridges or swap contracts. The company also noted that the XRP Ledger has operated continuously since 2012 without transaction rollbacks.

For organizations deploying agents that manage funds, Ripple cited escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization, and trust lines as controls that can define spending permissions and transaction rules without custom smart contracts. RLUSD, in Ripple’s view, fits use cases that require price stability, including invoice settlement, payroll, and agent-to-agent commerce.

Debate over autonomous AI agents remains open

Ripple described the AI starter kit as the first phase of a broader development effort, with future releases shaped by developer feedback and new payment use cases. The launch comes as technology and crypto firms continue building infrastructure for AI-driven financial activity.
