Ripple has unveiled the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a suite of tools and integrations designed to let developers build AI-powered applications that settle payments autonomously using XRP or Ripple USD (RLUSD). The kit targets agentic commerce, where AI systems handle tasks and payments without human oversight.
Phased Rollout with Developer Toolkit
According to Ripple, the XRPL AI Starter Kit is being released in phases. The first phase focuses on documentation, integrations, and sample projects to simplify building agent-driven applications on XRPL. Developers can now query XRP Ledger data through the XRPL Docs MCP Server, compatible with AI environments such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and Cursor. Ripple also released XRPL Agent Wallet and XRPL Payment Skills for Claude, enabling AI agents to create wallets, check balances, send payments, and track transactions.
X402 Protocol Powers Machine-to-Machine Payments
A key component of the launch is X402 protocol support. Through a contribution from technology partner t54, XRPL is now a supported chain under X402, allowing AI agents to pay for API requests, AI model inference, computing resources, and other digital services using XRP or RLUSD. Ripple notes that XRPL transactions settle in 3 to 5 seconds with predictable costs—no gas fee auctions—reducing uncertainty in automated workflows. The ledger's built-in decentralized exchange and native multi-currency payment capabilities let agents send one asset and deliver another in a single transaction, avoiding external bridges. Ripple also highlighted XRPL's uninterrupted operation since 2012, with zero transaction rollbacks, as a reliability factor for institutional adoption.
RLUSD for Stable-Value Agent Transactions
Ripple positioned RLUSD as ideal for agentic workflows requiring stable pricing, such as invoice settlement, payroll distribution, and agent-to-agent trade. RLUSD runs natively on XRPL, reusing the same transaction framework as XRP, and can be swapped for other assets via the built-in DEX. Ripple stated that the XRPL AI Starter Kit is the first step in a broader agentic payments strategy, with future updates based on developer feedback and emerging use cases.
