Global credit rating agency Kroll assigned an investment-grade issuer rating (BBB) to Ripple Prime on April 2, marking a key milestone for the prime brokerage platform that combines Ripple's digital asset infrastructure with Hidden Road's established clearing and financing operations. The rating covers both the intermediate holding company, Ripple Prime CIV US BD HoldCo LLC, and its main operating subsidiary, Hidden Road Partners CIV US LLC, collectively known as Ripple Prime US.
$39 Billion in Assets and Parental Support
Ripple Prime's rapid asset growth to approximately $39 billion in 2025 was driven by repo activity, derivatives clearing, and increasing institutional client demand following Ripple's $1.3 billion acquisition of Hidden Road in 2025. Kroll's assessment highlighted that parental support from Ripple is a key credit strength, as Ripple maintains a strong capital position with significant cash reserves and digital asset holdings that provide financial flexibility. This backing is expected to sustain the platform in scenarios where regulatory or liquidity constraints might otherwise limit internal capital flows.
The platform operates under a matched-principal model, avoiding proprietary trading while generating revenue through clearing, financing, and collateral services. While the business remains in a scaling phase, management is pursuing diversification through new business lines and experienced hires to broaden revenue sources beyond financing spreads. Risk management relies on margin controls, real-time monitoring, and high-quality collateral, supported by a short-duration financing approach that promotes disciplined liquidity management.
Multi-Asset Prime Brokerage Ecosystem
Ripple Prime's broader strategy centers on building a multi-asset prime brokerage ecosystem spanning fixed income, derivatives, foreign exchange, and digital assets. Planned initiatives include Delta1 financing, equity prime brokerage, and expanded clearing connectivity. The platform recently integrated onchain derivatives platform Hyperliquid, enabling institutional clients to access decentralized liquidity while managing multi-asset portfolios. This integration signals Ripple Prime's ambition to capture the next wave of institutional liquidity in digital assets.
CEO Commentary and Market Implications
Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, commented on X: "Clear validation of Ripple Prime’s strength, reliability and tech with today’s investment grade issuer rating from Kroll. Momentum builds when markets recognize these things." The BBB rating, while at the lower end of investment grade, is expected to bolster Ripple Prime's credibility among institutional clients and accelerate client acquisition. Analysts note that future performance will depend on interest rate trends, financing demand, and the success of diversification into new brokerage and multi-asset services.
